At Ceritech Audio we are committed to giving you the best products and service. We offer a lovingly curated collection of products from a range of high-performance audio brands, one such brand being Naim Audio.
Founded in 1973 by Julian Vereker, the Naim Audio story began with one man’s passion for music, and weaves its way through four decades to the present day. Every Naim Audio product is conceived, designed and engineered entirely in service of the sound, revealing a pure experience of music that is as close as possible to its original live source.
Over the years we’ve amassed a comprehensive level of experience across the entire range of Naim Audio products, so we know how to get the best performance from them. The exploration of sound is an adventure that rewards you with a clarity and connection that becomes more powerful the deeper you travel within it. This is why, every element within a Naim Audio system is crafted to create a silence around the sound, reducing any interference between you and the intention of the artist.
There is a clearly defined and cost-effective upgrade path whenever you decide that you want even greater performance from your Naim system. Naim Audio pioneered their modular approach to system building in their early days and have been refining it now for more than 40 years. It is impossible to run out of incremental improvements you can make to your system until you reach the heady heights of the ultimate Statement amplification system.
We’ve put together this simple guidance to help you understand how you can improve the performance of and get the best from your Naim Audio system. These upgrades encompass isolation, power supplies and cables.
Firstly, we recommend you address the isolation of your system with Fraim and FraimLite equipment support. Naim developed the Fraim family of products to enable Naim Audio electronics to perform optimally.
Fraim – The stage your music deserves
Isolation is paramount when it comes to faithful music reproduction, and the Naim Audio Fraim equipment support system has been carefully designed to provide the perfect platform for Naim Audio electronics to shine. Its concept is ‘knife-edge’ decoupling, providing minimal contact isolation between products from within the system chain, rejecting unwanted noise and vibration from loudspeakers and power supply electromagnetic fields.
The ‘Knife edge’ concept is preferred by Naim, as the minimal contact and non-compliant isolation allows the in-built suspension of Naim products to operate correctly. For example, the NAC 552 has a coiled sprung suspension system, and adding compliant isolation beneath this product would cause counteraction, preventing the sprung system from operating correctly.
We highly recommend the use of a Fraim or FraimLite equipment support system to extract the maximum performance and sound quality from any Naim system. Both are on demonstration in store
The simplest upgrade is to change, say, the source component or preamplifier for a more sophisticated model in the range. However, most Naim Audio source components and all Naim Audio preamplifiers, can have their performance enhanced through a range of independent power supply units. Simply adding a supply, or moving up one model in the power supply hierarchy, delivers readily appreciable gains in the musical performance of those components.
Naim Audio Power Supplies
The addition of a power supply offers a simple and effective upgrade to enhance the music-making ability of your Naim Audio components, maximising your system’s musicality and performance.
Why add on power-supplies? It is actually the only way to truly isolate electromagnetic power supply fields away from precious audio circuits. In actual fact in some cases adding a separate power-supply offers a double advantage and, in some cases, there is a triple advantage to adding an external power-supply and here’s why.
Let’s take the pre-amplifier, most think that Naim pre-amplifiers are passive, as they are devoid of any power-supplies. In actual fact some pre-amplifiers are powered either from an appropriate Naim power-amplifier, which lends part of its circuit for supplying voltage to the pre-amplifier, or can be or have to be powered by an appropriate or dedicated Naim power-supply.
Scenario 1. The NAC 282 preamplifier can be powered by a NAP 200, as this power-amplifier has a single rail, 24volts powered output stage. By adding a Hi-Cap to this combination, you have two upgrades in one; Dual rail 24 volts output regulation, large smoothing capacitors to keep the incoming voltage quiet, consistent and clean, allowing better amplification of the signal and less noise equalling better musical performance. Also, because the NAP 200 has now been relieved of powering the pre-amplifier, this circuit can now concentrate on solely driving the loudspeaker (it’s primary function).
Scenario 2. NDX-2 has an internal power-supply, by adding a power-supply such as an XPS DR, you have a triple effect upgrade, here’s how: First of all you have to disconnect the mains supply from the NDX-2, this powers down the internal power-supply creating a ‘quiet room’ for the streamers audio circuit to operate within. Secondly, the power-supply introduced connects via a cable called a Burndy cable, which uses a multi’ pin connector, allowing various voltages to be dropped on to the main board of the NDX-2 instantaneously (a short cut if you will to getting the voltage where required). Thirdly, the XPS DR power-supply is a much bigger, more robust power supply than the NDX-2’s self-contained power-supply, it uses a series of smoothing capacitors for more constant cleaner regulation and has much larger transformer. All of which add up to a quieter superior power-supply, improving the performance of the music.
The effects of adding a power supply upgrade to your component cannot be overestimated and are highly recommended. We can help you identify the most cost-effective power supply upgrade for your system and have all Naim Audio power supply options available for demonstration – Book A Demonstration
Cables. Or, the ‘nuts and bolts’ of the hi-fi system.
Cables are a crucial element to the performance of any audio system, so much so that Naim provide you with some excellent cables that are included with their hi-fi components. Not only does this include some excellent signal and power supply cables, Naim also ensures that you have an excellent mains cable and plug, voiced for optimal performance.
Every link in the audio chain is important, and the introduction of the new Power-Line Lite pushes the performance bar further, and it has replaced the previous standard mains cable in all Uniti, Integrated Separates and Classic range products. Power-Line Lite has been by designed by Naim Audio using the expertise gained from developing their original Power-Line mains cable to create a superior plug, paired with the mains cable they have trusted in their listening tests for over 15 years.
If you are using the previous mains cable in components of your system, we highly recommend swapping this for a Power-Line Lite. The Power-Line Lite is also available to purchase as an accessory for just £99.00, or on promotion at Ceritech Audio – buy 2 for £185.00, or buy 3 for £265.00.
The R&D department at Naim has been constantly improving the performance of the cables that connect the system components. This endeavour resulted in the stunning Hi-Line interconnect and Power-Line mains cable, each offering a significant performance upgrade. Both of these are unique in their mechanical design, which aims to repel any spurious vibrations that attempt to disturb the sensitive electronics by entering the case through the cable connections. These cables not only offer superior low signal path loss, but also concentrate on how the cables interface with the component’s sockets. This technology is based around mechanical pin to socket contact and also the mechanical decoupling characteristics from component to component, minimising distortion.
Naim continue to include their original high-end Power-Line mains cable with all 500 Series products and Statement, and it is available to purchase as an upgrade for any Naim component at £599.00.
A smooth, stable, low-noise supply is critical, and it’s absolutely fundamental to performance. That’s why Naim Audio designed the Power-Line mains cable. Its complex, precision-engineered construction has been defined and refined following solid mechanical engineering principles and then confirmed after hundreds of hours of testing in the listening room. We invite you to experience the difference it can make to your system for yourself. You won’t be disappointed – Book A Demonstration
During the development of the reference CD555 CD player, a special project ran in parallel; to develop a new signal cable that would exceed the performance of Naim Audio’s standard signal cable. The brief was to investigate all parameters of a signal carrier; to improve the whole rather than just improving the cable as is the more normal development practice. The result of this was the Hi-Line signal cable. Available with both DIN and RCA terminations, its patented Air-PLUG connector is a decoupling device that reduces vibration transmitted along the cable itself, preserving your system’s precious musicality. The cable itself was also carefully designed to preserve audio signal integrity so improving sound quality. We highly recommend you try the upgrade to a Hi-Line Interconnect.
During the development of the flagship Statement amplification system, Naim Audio’s engineers realised that they would need to design a whole new range of high-performance cables for it to reach its true potential, and they began a development project to design interconnects and speaker cable that would meet Statement standards of performance. Through a deep understanding of material science and after thousands of hours testing in the listening room, the Super Lumina range was born.
Designed to maximise the performance of Statement but equally at home in 500 Series and Classic Series systems, Super Lumina pre to power amp interconnects are available with DIN to XLR, and XLR to XLR terminations. Super Lumina source to preamplifier interconnects are available with DIN to DIN, DIN to RCA, RCA to RCA and RCA to XLR connectors.
Super Lumina interconnects are designed to minimise the effect of external and internal interference sources and preserve maximum signal fidelity. The effect they have on a Naim system is nothing short of staggering
Every link in the hi-fi chain is important. Connections between components, including those to the loudspeakers, are crucial to the performance of any audio system. NAC A5 is Naim Audio’s multi-strand loudspeaker cable. Its design is optimised for use with Naim Audio amplifiers and any loudspeakers by ensuring that its capacitance, inductance and resistance are entirely compatible. We strongly recommend its use for a safe, convenient and very effective connection.
Designed to maximise the performance of Statement but equally at home in 500 Series and Classic Series systems, Super Lumina speaker cables are highly recommended as a performance upgrade. Super Lumina speaker cables are designed to minimise the effect of external and internal interference sources and preserve maximum signal fidelity.
Each cable is hand-assembled at Naim Audio in Salisbury to the customer’s specification of length and termination. The process is intricate and highly-skilled, following detailed instructions which cover every aspect of the build. Every cable also goes through a proprietary de-stressing process to relieve the materials of the inherent stresses which are a result of the manufacturing process. This means the cables reach optimum performance with minimal run in time. We would be delighted to demonstrate the benefits of the Super Lumina upgrade to you – Book A Demonstration
