During 2016 Pro-Ject Audio Systems, one of the leading companies in the world of analogue audio, celebrated their 25th anniversary. To mark this special occasion, the Vienna-based company announced a new turntable called ‘The Classic’. This is a belt-drive turntable that makes clever use of isolation and damping throughout its design to produce an audio performance that puts it in a different class.
The two-plinth design clearly tips its hat to the iconic Linn and Thorens designs of the 1960’s and 70’s, but its implementation is far more modern and user-friendly, replacing the complicated “suspended” systems with a “floating” platter that nestles on TPE isolation blobs. This structure essentially separates the arm and bearing from the motor, dramatically reducing any unwanted interference to the audio signal.
The philosophy of reduced resonances is also clearly evidenced in the platter configuration, the new adjustable feet and the brand new Classic Tonearm.
The Classic is supplied as standard with an Ortofon 2M Silver and a dust cover, available in Eucalyptus (black), Rose nut and Walnut finish.
